I watched it again Sunday morning on HBO. Still think final shot was a low blow and an early stoppage. Ward landed right on the Hublot logo and the way Kovalev doubled over was to me more from a nut punch than a midsection one.

All this horsesh*t I've read about Ward breaking him physically and mentally...STFU. People have been watching Rocky 4 too much. Fight was super close at that point and most at ringside had Kovalev up 5-2 or 4-3 in rounds at that point. Ward isn't a devastating puncher. The shot he landed to his head staggered him but wasn't enough to finish him.

Son of Judges will likely have to fight another Russian next, Artur Beterbiev (I don't see that stupid Stevenson doing it, sorry). And he might be even more dangerous and driven than SK. He's a two-time Olympian who has won all 11 of his fights by KO. Gets little press though, mostly because he hasn't had any fights on TV here that I know of, but also -- I believe -- because he's a Chechnyan Muslim who now lives in Montreal. And he's not real into interviews either. Oh, and he's suing to get out of his promotional contract, even though his promoter really hasn't done anything to warrant dismissal. Still has a fight next month that he's going through with, as it's a title eliminator and he's expected to win.

Most of his opponents have not been very good. And he went down once in the 1st round on a glancing shot, though it may have been a balance thing and he did get up and dispatch the guy in the 2nd. But watch his KO's against former titlists Cloud and Campillo. The second one is frightening. Speed is better than average and his ability to close and finish once a guy is hurt is also daunting.

Just tried to post links to the videos of those KO's but SDHC is being obdurate this morning. They're up on YouTube though.

I watched again and I still say properly placed body blows are more devastating than the strongest of head shots. The belt was over his fukking abdomen he had a plan and that was to cry and force penalties to that i have no respect for him. I did see one legit low blow the rest were on the belt... the belt that was mid stomach... didn't know you could grow nuts out of your belly button.

I may have to do a human reproductive system power point presentation to show you human anatomy and how that's not possible unless SK grew 2 blocks away from Chernobyl.

I don't know if that other guy is a mandatory or whatnot but things change when you step up in competition.

Last one was on the logo, well beneath the waist. And it had to hurt, high Russian radioactive nuts or not. Still a sh*t way to end a fight. Unless it's a liver punch you just don't stop a fight after body shots. Not a title fight at least. And not to a guy who was winning in the eyes of many. Ward might've gotten over on him but that's not a win to laud.

It is being reported that the winner of Beterbiev-Enrico Koelling is the mandatory challenger to Ward, though money could either make this fight happen or convince the sorry governing bodies to look the other way so Ward could fight someone else.

Ok, linkage ability back up...just FF to 7:50 to watch the final combo. I was wrong, this fight was on CBS. And it claims that Beterbiev's right hand packed 973 lbs. of force, apparently he had a PSI detector in his glove.

He's a hard puncher indeed... but you know that is just the sexy side of it... When your fighting a rally good fighter they are not sitting in there like tackling dummies waiting to be hit... Those hard punches are much harder to land clean AND they can open you up to a severe counter in which you have never been hit with while you were fighting stiffs.

True. But guys like this give no f*cks about getting hit. They'll eat 3 to give 1, and that 1 will hurt like nothing you've ever felt. Anyone who hits this hard, even glancing blows or deflections will sting a bit.

I have to agree w/Dan Rafael's remark about Beterbiev a couple months back in his P4P rankings: "Beterbiev is a bad man..."
